Peter Charland

Father Charland has been accused of sexual abuse by at least 8 individuals. One of his accusers claims that Charland abused him when he was just 11 years old. The abuse allegedly occurred in different places, including the church rectory and Charland’s car. Charland reportedly left St. James Parish in 1975 and apparently went on to become a psychotherapist who worked with children. In 1995, Charland wrote a letter where he outlined several reasons for leaving, including that he “had fallen prey to such miserable characteristics because of [his] own personal loneliness” and that he was “beginning to hurt people despite [his] best intentions to never do that to anyone.”
