A lawsuit was filed in 1996 accusing Father Brinker of sexual misconduct. The lawsuit alleged that Brinker acted inappropriately with a 14-year-old boy. It has been reported that Brinker was allowed to return to active work in 2002 and that the Vatican similarly cleared Brinker to return to ministry.
