In 2003, the Buffalo Times reported that at least two priests were removed from ministry under “unusual circumstances.” One of the priests was Thomas McCarthy, the pastor of St. John the Baptist in West Valley. It was reported that Father McCarthy allegedly retired “suddenly” following a meeting with diocesan officials.
