In 1980, a man wrote to Bishop John McGann and told the Bishop that he was sexually abused by Huneke as a teenager. The abuse allegedly occurred at St. Dominic High School in Oyster Day in the 1970s. It has been reported that Huneke left Long Island in 1979 and left the priesthood in 1989. According to the Tampa Tribune, Huneke served at Christ the King Parish in Tampa, Florida, between 1979 and 1982. According to the St. Petersburg Times, the St. Petersburg Diocese sent Huneke back to New York in 1982. Huneke is allegedly identified as ‘Priest M’ in a 2003 Suffolk County Grand Jury report, which stated that four of Priest M’s victims testified before the Grand Jury.
