In 2003, Father Soares was one of the priests accused of sexual misconduct in a lawsuit filed in Queens. The lawsuit alleged that Soares repeatedly sexually abused the minor while she was approximately 9 years old and attending St. Bartholomew Parish in Elmhurst. The lawsuit further alleges that the abuse occurred in the 1950s.
