Michael Salerno
Ordained: 1993
Father Salerno was ordained in 1993 and served two Brooklyn parishes until he went to serve St. Leo Roman Catholic Church in Baltimore in 1997. Father Salerno was reportedly removed as pastor of St. Leo’s because of an allegation that he sexually abused a minor at a parish in Brooklyn in the 1970s. At the time, Salerno was said to have been a Brother of the Pallottines, a religious order. A December 2008 letter from the Pallotine Provincial stated that the final report of the investigation conducted by the Diocese of Brooklyn confirmed that Father Salerno sexually abused a boy who was approximately 13-years-old. The letter further stated that Salerno had admitted to the investigators that he sexually abused the child multiple times over a period of years. Salerno’s faculties as priest were permanently revoked.
