James P. Collins
Ordained: 1979
James P. Collins was serving as chaplain at Bishop Kearney High School in Brooklyn when he was placed on administrative leave. Collins was accused of molesting boys while he served in a Queens parish before going to Bishop Kearney High School. Collins had previously served St. Michael’s in Flushing, St. Clare’s in Rosedale, Our Lady Queen of Martyrs in Forest Hills and St. Margaret in Middle Village. A lawsuit in 2002 alleged that four men were abused by Collins between 1970 and 1984. He was permanently removed from ministry in 2002. In 2003, he was again named in a civil lawsuit. Collins committed suicide soon thereafter.
