James/Jaime Lara
Ordained: 1973
Father Lara was ordained in 1973 and was active in ministry until he was removed from the priesthood in 1992. Lara was accused of sexually abusing three children when they were between 9 and 11 years old. The abuse is reported to have occurred between 1979 and 1981 at St. Francis Xavier Church in Brooklyn, New York. Lara was laicized by the Vatican in 2007. After news of the abuse and his resignation from the priesthood surfaced, in November 2017, James Lara reportedly resigned from his position as professor at Arizona State University.
